Monday, March 2nd, 5:00 pm at the ICA | A conversation between Dr. Marina Magloire and Dr. E. Gaynell Sherrod, who have each published recent books on Katherine Dunham and Zora Neale Hurston that examine the legacy of Haitian Vodou in Black American Feminism and the arts. They will address how artistic, spiritual, and scholarly practices influence one another in the work of the scholar-artists they have studied, and in their own work.

Thursday, March 5th, 12:30 pm in the STEM Building, Room 110 | In her presentation, Dr. González-Martin will discuss the case of Mexican American Zoey Luna’s quinceañera as the lead story of HBO’s four-part documentary series, 15: A Quinceañera Story. Through her analyses, Dr. González-Martin confronts the way in which depictions of trans and gender expansive youth communities in popular media are often used to reinscribe and leverage their vulnerability and pain for profit.
